Your curls were never the problem. the industry was.

Meet the Founder

A woman with curly hair, wearing a yellow blazer and matching pants, sitting on a tall stool with one leg crossed over the other, against a plain white background.

The beauty industry has been a place of cultural segregation. Curly hair women within all cultures have had unfortunate similar experiences- the white woman flat-ironing daily, the Black woman relaxed at the young age of 7, the Latina told her hair was unruly, the mixed-race teen who never saw her true texture. Why? Because for decades, the industry told us straight hair was the standard — and our curls were the problem. That's the industry I refused to keep building. My intention for Helix House Salon is inclusive curl care for every woman- a salon where any woman with curls can walk in and be cared for on her own terms.

I welcome you to become our Curlfriend.

  • dates back to 2011 with a vision delivered in a dream to our founder, Nekesha Griffis, at a pivotal time when she was seeking change. She desired and imagined a salon of professional experts providing haircare services with excellence. The vision that was delivered to her was one that she could not fathom. The norm for the beauty industry was to segregate culturally. Nekesha always understood as a beauty professional that hair texture had no cultural boundaries. Since the inception of her entrepreneurial journey in 2009 she has worked as the prototype to create the basis and foundation of what we now know as the Helix House. Because of her belief in God and our focus on our core values, Helix House Salon is a space for ALL women with curly/wavy/kinky/coily hair to gather, connect, and be loved while receiving hospitable service.
